Case Study: Tutaepatu Lagoon Eco Restoration Project

Our work at Tutaepatu included weed and pest control, clearing of willow and non-native plant species in preparation for a new boardwalk, and a number of other tasks (creating a work site, propagating native plant species). It is important to mention the excellent efforts of the Tutaepatu Project Management Team headed by Jo Kane and John De Zwart and Kaitiaki o Ngahere Forestry Management who provided a very thorough project plan.

In fact, the plan adopted at Tutaepatu involved the first plant maintenance methodology of its type ever attempted in New Zealand and has proved to be an extremely effective native plant protection approach.

The project also involved the expertise/guidance of botanist Colin Merc and the restoration and avifauna plans created by Montgomery Watson and Tom Kroose respectively.
